Getting St. Patty’s Festivities Started Early…

Here in Boston, we are blessed with not one, but two amazing breweries: Sam Adams and Harpoon. A few weeks ago, I found out a minute too late that Sam Adams had sponsored a Beer Summit. I missed it, but my friends brought me back some Scotch Ale flavored lip balm, so all was not lost.

Today, though, I am on the ball. For all you Boston beer lovers like myself, I have found out about a special treat happening this Friday and Saturday. The Harpoon Factory is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Fest. There’s going to be Irish food, Irish music, and lots of beer to be tasted. Check out the website for all of the particulars. What I can tell you is to get there early. Friday, doors open at 5:30p.m. Saturday it starts at 2 p.m. I’ll be there Friday, wearing all my best green duds.

Harpoon recently released their latest seasonal brew – the Hibernian Ale. I’ve heard mixed reviews thus far, but have yet to try it myself. I’ll get right on that on Friday and report back. This past weekend, I discovered Harpoon’s answer to a forty. They have 22 ounce bottles of UFO and IPA in the coolers at my local liquor store. I was in the mood for UFO, and the big bottle hit the spot. They are the perfect size to share with a friend so you both get to experience what a proper unfiltered wheat beer is supposed to taste like. One downfall, if you chose to drink straight from the bottle – no judgments here – it’s not easy to get the right lemon to Hefeweizen ratio. But really, if you haven’t had UFO before, I’d recommend it to those who like their beer light, but still with flavorful kick. It’s a great option if you want to try something different from Blue Moon.
